About The Happy Home

The Happy Home is a site dedicated to 20-something, budget-friendly, DIY living.

When it comes to homemaking, there’s always something that can make your house feel a little more “you.” Even if you’re still stranded in a sub-par rental, The Happy Home has tips and tricks to make even the most basic of apartments feel like home.

One of the best ways The Happy Home fosters the warm and fuzzies is by focusing on food.  Our meatless lifestyle– coupled with a healthy respect for cakes and cookies and sweets of all kinds– is cruelty-free and always happy.

And every Friday, we stressed-out Generation Y workers celebrate with Cocktail Friday.  A unique mixed drink is the perfect way to prep for your two-day vacation every week. Catch other participants on Twitter with the hashtag #CocktailFriday!

About Emily:

Always a busy body and puttering around the house, I started The Happy Home as an outlet to express my multi-faceted creativity.  My parents can attest to the fact that I’ve been painting, sanding, re-doing and destroying things/furniture my entire life– they have photos of me peeling wallpaper off the walls at a two years old, and in high school, I worked at Michael’s Arts & Crafts to feed my DIY addiction.

There are only a few things I ever told my parents I wanted to be “when I grew up”: a writer, a baker, and the next Martha Stewart.  I suppose this blog makes all of those (close to) a reality.

Connecticut bred, but now living in the heart of Los Angeles, I’m a life-long writer with a sarcastic streak a mile wide.  I’m hardly ever content to do the same thing for too long, so my professional career has brought me through the fashion industry, celebrity public relations, and now to radio producing and the wine and spirits industry.

I rent a small two-bedroom house with my fiance, David, and our two dogs, Carson, the rescued pit bull, and Margo, the rescued Chow Chow.

If all goes according to plan, we’ll be married by the end of 2011!
