Yeah, so it really looks like regular French Toast.
But.
It tastes like fall.
- In a bowl, combine heavy cream, milk, eggs, vanilla, and spices. Whisk thoroughly until blended and thick! Is there anything prettier than this?

- In a 9×13″ casserole, align your bread slices. Like so:
I used thick-cut slices, also sold as “Texas Toast” sliced bread. It made for a sturdier toast. - Pour your eggy/milky/spicey mixture over your bread. (I forgot to photo.) Cover the casserole and ‘fridge for 20 minutes to a half hour. Everything’s going to get gloppy and saucy and delicious. Mmm.
- In a large skillet or on a griddle, melt some butter. Cook your French toast until golden brown.
- Serve with butter and maple syrup. I, naturally, went with Mrs. Butterworth’s

These toasts frying up is pretty much the smell of heaven. The vanilla/cinnamon/nutmeg smells waft through the house and bring everyone (i.e., a hungry boyfriend) to your side. Or pit bulls. The pit bull wanted some desperately.
This was definitely the right thing to make to commemorate the end of The Bummer Summer.
I’m getting on a post-Saturday-work-Brunch kick lately. Last week, we went to our favorite diner once I got done with work, but this is much more economical. I had the cinnamon, vanilla, nutmeg, syrup and butter at the house already, so my cost was $3 for the special Texas toast loaf of bread. Not bad.
What’s your favorite brunch?
(Psst– do you want to win two bottles of Mrs. Butterworth’s? You, too, can enjoy the flavors in a Waffletini or on your favorite autumn breakfasts. Leave a comment below, and I’ll pick a winner this Friday! Must enter by 7pm PST, Thursday September 15th! US participants only, please. Don’t know the laws about shipping syrup internationally!)

Your french toast looks and sounds amazing. I bet it smelt great too! My fav is good ole bacon and syrup. Mmmmm. It’s okay that I cannot win, as my family would disown me for using other than homemade. They are pretty serious about it. lol My sister does buy commercial – but does not tell any of them ;)

You can totally make without the heavy cream– I just wanted a little extra sinfulness in my brunch!

Oh, that’s a great idea! When we do breakfast for dinner, it’s usually just boring scrambled eggs. But that would be an exciting treat at the end of the day!
I think this recipe sounds delicious. I wish my husband liked this type of food. O-well, more for me :) Pancakes, waffles, and french toast rock. I am also, on a strong Pumpkin kick right now, since it’s practically fall. Thanks for the recipe, I look forward to trying it.

I just made these, and they are really good. It was the first time I’ve made french toast in a way that you pour the egg mixture over the eggs and refrigerate, so this might just be ignorance on my part. However, because of the way the bread was stacked in the casserole dish, part of the bread was sopping in egg mixture (causing it to fall apart) and the other part of the same piece was totally untouched by the egg mixture. I managed to salvage, but it would be helpful to have tips about giving it more even distribution.
