Time and again, I have complained about our bedroom’s expansive walls.
This is what’s been living by my desk for a few months now:
(How come there’s ALWAYS a beer open in my shots? Seriously, I promise I do not have a drinking problem. It was just a particularly shitty day at work. I didn’t even finish the damn thing. )
I thought a few keepsakes and collections on my corkboard would be enough. But lo, I was wrong. You can’t even see this card, that I think my Mom got for me a few years back:
Our ceilings are about 12 feet tall at the lowest point in the bedroom, so there’s a ton of wall to fill up.
Last week, I was puttering around Michael’s and I found myself in the stencil section, staring down a lineup from Martha Stewart Crafts.
In a splurge, I grabbed a $16 set of geometrics, called the Arabesque collection, and a 2 pack of value canvasses that are 16″x20″.
A little bit of craft paint and a lot of cursing later, I’ve got some stuff on my walls!
Can you see the pattern? No? Here’s a close-up:
I personally think they look like mums. Cute, huh? And that middle burst isn’t orange– it’s actually a metallic gold that just doesn’t look shiny in the wrong light. I keep trying to add little bits of metallic to the room to lighten it up a bit!
The space above the door is still too empty…
As is the space above the bed.
So, hopefully these cheap-o canvasses can add some much-needed art to our walls. Not sure what to do with the other canvas I have. I don’t have the guts to freehand anything; I might try stenciling another pattern or try to find a new set of stencils to use…
How do you add inexpensive art to your walls?

Hey Emily…stop by my site for today’s BLOG HOP? My readers would love your site. Have a great day….Sinea
Cute… Artwork (and I don’t mean ART work) is so overpriced… Why more people don’t get creative is beyond me! Good job!
Damn, Girl, you are so flipping creative! I love the piece! … as for how how we add inexpensive art to our walls… sadly I must admit we’ve gone years without adding anything new. Since the remodel we’ve barely started. In our “old” loft space, we hung framed travel posters of the different places we’ve traveled. Alas, now it is empty and I keep trying to knock over the frames when I walk into our room in the dark!
I have several of my own photography pieces that I hope to frame and hang in my new office. I’m by no means an interior decorator, so this is a place where I struggle. :( But… you’re an inspiration. Thanks! :)
