I suppose, in my younger and more vulnerable years, I was a bit more flamboyant than I am now.
(Mom– I know. Where did it go?)
There was my multi-hued hair (a trait my sister and I both shared– hers was fire-engine red and I had streaks of green), my penchant for miniskirts and fishnets paired with goth-inspired platform heels. Usually mixed with J.Crew button downs, so I looked kind of like the staff of Hot Topic bred with a Kennedy. There was also lots of glitter.
Lots and lots of glitter.
I sort of shy away from glitter* nowadays, but I’m going to add some shimmer to my life with more metallic finishes.
Enter: THE FRAME!
Kind of boring in it’s Straight-From-Ikea state. It’s a brown/black Ribba frame.
I brushed it with a nice coat of white acrylic paint, because I couldn’t find my spray primer.
Then I started layering on the gold metallic acrylic paint. I kind of like this finish, but it’s a bit “country” and probably wouldnt’ go very well in the house.
After about 5 layers of gold paint plus one layer of High Gloss Mod Podge for a sealer, I give you:
My golden frame!
Sorry for all the “noise” in the photo. Had the ISO on my camera turned way the heck up to try to get the colors a bit more accurate!
Looks great against our Kingfisher Blue Pottery Barn Knockoff Bookshelf! (I can’t believe this project was all the way back in February!)
Since we have a few more of these frames laying about the house, I might try watering down the gold paint and using it as a glaze on another dark brown/black frame. Sort of give the dark color a bit of shimmer.
How do you sparkle?
*other BlogHer attendees: I am so looking forward to SparkleCorn you HAVE NO IDEA.

I love the frame! The brightness of the yellow… AWESOME against the blue!
Also, the contents captured my eye. My mom soooo needs that hanging in her office! Did you make it or download it or …??

you can pick up the print in many different colors from this etsy shop: http://www.etsy.com/shop/birdAve?section_id=7766602
I think the 20 bucks might be a bit steep for what it is (8×11 print) but the content is cool!
I’m begining to really embrace yellow… especially with grey and dark slate-y blues. I love the slightly aged/not brand new look you got… which is something that just does NOT come in a Straight-From-Ikea state.

not to sound all designer cliche, but that really does “pop”!
I love how you painted that frame!! The bright color is fabulous!!! I think I have a pile of frames in a box in my studio (left-overs shipped out from my mom) Now I’m inspired to get creative with them!! Thanks!
