Cocktail Friday: Il Postino

by emily on 01/21/2011

Last Tuesday evening, David and I headed to Osteria Mozza in Hollywood for a nice dinner.

We don’t go out to expensive dinners often, and we certainly don’t go to Hollywood on weekdays for dinner, except for special occasions.

Last Tuesday, we totally got engaged.

That’s right– I’m a writer, and I get to marry a musician.  We’ll avoid being on food stamps for as long as possible, but make no promises.

Though I try not to ever buy alcohol at restaurants (too pricey, too much driving at the end of the night, and let’s face it– I have a full bar at home), this was CLEARLY a celebration, so I nabbed one of Mozza’s signature cocktails

Il Postino

(which I’m assuming is named after the really adorable Italian film of the same name, that I watched in poetry class in high school.  One of the characters is Pablo Neruda, so it somehow tied in.)

The menu lists the ingredients as “light rum, honey, lime, and prosecco.”

And I tried to re-create it at home!

  • 1/2 oz light rum
  • 1 oz honey
  • 4 oz sparkling wine
  • lime/citrus to taste

I have the light rum (isn’t the label on Banks Rum so pretty?), honey, and blanc de blanc sparkling from Saddlerock winery.

  1. Shake the honey and the rum in a shaker to infuse the rum with the honey flavor.
  2. Pour into flutes or glasses
  3. Top with sparkling wine
  4. Add lime (or any other citrus) for flavor!

We’re lamesauce and don’t have champagne flutes.

Guess that goes on the registry!
